The Mark Robinson War Room is a new project of the North Carolina Democratic Leadership Committee, an organization backed by the Democratic Governors Association, and established for the sole purpose of holding Lt. Governor Mark Robinson accountable for his toxic record and dangerous agenda for North Carolina.
Robinson is the most divisive and extreme candidate to ever run for governor of North Carolina. From pushing a total ban on abortion with no exceptions to calling to defund public education, Robinson has never found a position too fringe to embrace. From now through November, the Robinson War Room will be shining a light on his extreme priorities and dangerous rhetoric, and working to make sure North Carolinians reject his candidacy at the polls.
MEET MARK ROBINSON
Mark Robinson is the most extreme candidate ever to run for governor in North Carolina.
Robinson has spent years demeaning women, attacking North Carolinians’ rights, and pushing fringe conspiracy theories that make North Carolina less safe. Now, despite months of warnings from leading North Carolina Republicans, Robinson has emerged as the GOP nominee as he campaigns to take his toxic agenda all the way to the governor’s office.
BANNING ABORTION WITH
NO EXCEPTIONS
Robinson has promised that as governor he would sign “a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason.”
He applauded last year’s abortion ban, saying, “We got it down to 12 weeks. The next goal is to get it down to six, and then just keep moving from there.”
MAKING MISOGYNISTIC COMMENTS
Robinson justified his extreme opposition to reproductive freedom by telling women, “Once you make a baby, it’s not your body anymore—it’s y’all’s body. And, yes, that includes the daddy.”
He has said women cannot be leaders, and that “We are called to be led by men… when it was time to face down Goliath, [God] sent David. Not Davita, David.”
DENYING NORTH CAROLINIANS
HEALTH CARE
Robinson has been a vehement opponent of North Carolina’s Medicaid expansion, which will expand health care coverage to 600,000 working North Carolinians. Prior to its passage, he said “I hope that it fails,” staking out a position more extreme than that of Republican legislators, and later admitting that he was “dismayed” at this bipartisan victory.
In the wake of the Alabama court decision jeopardizing IVF, Robinson’s office was asked whether he would protect fertility treatments for North Carolinians hoping to start a family. Unsurprisingly, his office “did not respond” to the request.
ATTACKING TEACHERS AND DEFUNDING PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Robinson called public school teachers “wicked people” and urged his supporters to pull their children out of public schools and “make your own school.”
In his memoir, Robinson wrote that he “wants to eliminate the State Board of Education, leave science and history out of curricula for first through fifth grade.”
PUSHING FRINGE
CONSPIRACY THEORIES
Robinson continues to amplify the Big Lie, saying President Joe Biden “stole the election. Yeah, I said that,” and calling the January 6th insurrection a “minor thing.”
Robinson has downplayed the Holocaust, saying, “Hitler disarming MILLIONS OF Jews and then marching them off to concentration camps is a bunch of hogwash” and elevating antisemitic rhetoric that has put North Carolina's Jewish community “on high alert.”
He described the Civil Rights Movement as a communist plot to “subvert capitalism” and used “to subvert free choice and where you go to school and things like that,” adding, “so many things were lost during the Civil Rights Movement. So many freedoms were lost during the Civil Rights Movement. They shouldn’t have been lost.”
Robinson’s penchant for conspiracy theories knows no limits. Here are a few more of the “unbelievably bonkers” claims he has pushed on social media.
